1st Tiger SQN Sliač

The history of the 1st Fighter Squadron Sliac dates back to the end of
1992,when, between October and December 1992, the Slovak pilots
underwent conversion course for MiG-29 Fulcrum run at the Zatec AFB,
in the former Czech and Slovak federal republic, to became the
basis of the1st Fighter Squadron at the Sliac AFB.

1989-1993 1993-2001 2001

The spilt of the Czech and Slovak federal republic consequently
resulted in the subdividion of the Czechoslovak Armed Forces. The first
MiG-29 Fulcrums were flown over to Sliac AFB on 9 December 1992, with
the last one to land on 29 December on the date.Starting 1 january
1993,1st Fighter Regiment was formed at the Sliac AFB, incorporating
the 1st Fighter Squadron, to be later renamed as 31st Fighter
Wing on 1 january 1995.

Within the framework of restructalization, on 1 October 2001, the
31st Fighter Wing was renamed as Fighter Wing, retaining the 1st Fighter Squadron. Members of the 1st Fighter Squadron, equipped with
MiG-29 Fulcrum, have been successful participants to lots of airshowes
and military exercises organized throughout Europe as a part
of the PfP programme.

Very important year for the 1st Fighter Squadron was year 2003, when our squadron became observer and honorary member of the NTA on annually held NATO Tiger meet in Cambrai, France. After entering the NATO in 2004 the squadron members are ready to work hard to become full member of the NTA in horizon of two years.

Timeline

1993
- modern history of the 1st SQN SLIAC has started. Members of the squadron were former MiG-29 Fulcrum slovak pilots from 1st "Tiger" SQN Zatec and new trained slovak pilots.

1997
- the 1st SQN reorganisation - two squadrons equipped with MiG-29
Fulcrum were established.

2000 - the Slovak Air Force reorganisation - two MiG-29 squadrons were transformed into one.

2001 - flying training of new pilots has started. 2002 - live fire A-G - May and live fire A-A - September

2003 - new pilots have joined 1st SQN and the squadron
became an observer and honorary member of the NTA status.
